51 yrs ago June 30: Carlos Monzon stops Tony Licata in 10, retains WBA 160lb title, @TheGarden NYC. In 12th defense & only U.S. appearance, Argentine great dominates La. contender a year before retirement. Also, Victor Galindez outpoints Jorge Ahumada over 15, retains WBA 175lbs.
Sugar Ray Robinson wins a 10-round unanimous decision over Ralph "The Ripper" Zannelli, on July 1, 1943, at the Boston Garden.
From the AP:
Zannelli made an excellent showing, despite running a temperature of 102 F (38.9 C) and suffering from a boil. Robinson won six rounds,

"Toy Bulldog" Mickey Walker retained the world middleweight crown #OnThisDay in 1927 with a Round 10 KO of European champion Tommy Milligan at Olympia in London.

Gene Fullmer retained the NBA world middleweight crown #OTD in 1960 with a Round 12 TKO of Carmen Basilio at Derks Field in Salt Lake City. A furious Basilio remonstrated with the referee and pushed him when he stopped the fight, claiming he was the victim of a home town
